Infitar

Surah Al-Infitar, meaning "The Cleaving" or "The Sundering," is the 82nd chapter of the Quran, describing the events of the Day of Judgment. It begins with vivid imagery of the sky splitting, stars scattering, seas bursting, and graves opening. The surah emphasizes that on that Day, each soul will know its deeds and face the consequences, highlighting Allah's power, the recording of deeds by angels, and the stark contrast between the righteous in Paradise and the wicked in Hell.

Here is a summary of the verses from Surah Al-Infitar:

  • Verses 1-4: Cosmic UpheavalThe surah opens with the sky splitting apart, stars falling and scattering, and the seas overflowing and bursting forth.
  • The graves are also turned upside down, exposing their contents.
  • Verse 5: AccountabilityFollowing these catastrophic events, each soul will know exactly what it has sent forth (good deeds) and what it has left behind (sins or neglected good deeds).
  • Verses 6-8: The Deceived HumanAllah asks a powerful question to humanity: What has deluded you concerning your generous Lord, who created, fashioned, and perfectly proportioned you?
  • Verse 9: Denial of JudgmentDespite the clear signs and Allah's perfect creation, people deny the Day of Recompense (the Day of Judgment).
  • Verses 10-12: The Recording AngelsThe surah reminds people that they are not alone, but are constantly watched by honorable, vigilant angels who record their deeds.
  • Verses 13-16: The Fate of the Righteous and WickedThe righteous will be in delight (Paradise), while the wicked will be in the blazing fire of Hell.
  • They will enter and remain in the Hellfire on the Day of Judgment without escape.
  • Verses 17-19: The Day of JudgmentThe surah powerfully questions what could possibly explain or convey the nature of this terrible Day of Judgment.
  • It concludes by stating that on that Day, no soul will have power or benefit for another soul, as the command and judgment will belong entirely to Allah.
